Frequently Asked Questions
Interventions
-
An intervention may be appropriate when your loved one is struggling with substance use, mental health challenges, or behavioral issues and is unwilling or unable to seek help on their own. It can also be helpful when your family feels stuck in unhealthy patterns, unsure how to respond, or uncertain about what to do next.
-
Every family and situation is unique, so no ethical interventionist can guarantee that a loved one will accept treatment. Approximately 75% of the individuals Cumberland Family Coaching has worked with have entered treatment immediately following an intervention.
Even when someone initially declines treatment, the process can help families establish healthier communication, clearer boundaries, and a plan for moving forward. Many individuals choose treatment days, weeks, or even months later.
-
No. During the assessment and planning process, we consider family dynamics, relationships, communication styles, and each person’s willingness to follow the intervention plan.
The goal is to bring together people who can provide a unified, compassionate message and create the most supportive environment possible. In some cases, that means certain family members or loved ones may not participate directly in the intervention.
-
An intervention cannot guarantee an immediate “yes,” and our work doesn’t end if your loved one declines treatment.
We continue working with your family to reinforce healthy boundaries, interrupt unhealthy patterns, encourage accountability, and determine the next best steps. An intervention is about more than one conversation — it’s about creating meaningful change within the family regardless of how your loved one responds that day.
-
Our initial contract is for three months, during which you’ll have 24/7 access to our team for guidance, support, and crisis management. At the end of those three months, we’ll re-evaluate your family’s needs, discuss pricing, and determine the best path forward together.
Every family is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all timeline. We remain involved for as long as needed and tailor our level of support to meet your family’s unique circumstances every step of the way.
-
Yes. Much of our work can be done remotely by phone or video, allowing us to respond quickly and work with families regardless of location. Virtual interventions and coaching can be highly effective and follow the same thoughtful, personalized approach as our in-person services.
Family Coaching & Recovery Guidance
-
No. In most cases, the process begins with the family. We work with you to become aligned, establish healthy boundaries, and make thoughtful decisions that support your loved one’s recovery.
Your loved one does not need to consent to or participate in family coaching. They typically become involved when it is time to present the opportunity for treatment.
-
Yes. This is one of the most common situations we encounter. Many people struggling with substance use or mental health challenges may not recognize the extent of the problem or believe they need help.
Our approach is designed to reduce resistance and create opportunities for your loved one to accept help. Even when someone initially says no, meaningful change is still possible.
-
We help identify treatment options based on your loved one’s clinical needs, personal circumstances, and financial situation. This can include determining the appropriate level of care, identifying programs, understanding insurance benefits and costs, and coordinating directly with treatment facilities.
Our goal is to take some of the stress and uncertainty out of the process so your family can focus on supporting your loved one.
-
Cumberland Family Coaching can continue supporting your family through recovery planning and aftercare, including guidance around sober living and next steps following treatment.

Transportation services are also available for an additional fee. Every situation is unique, so we’ll work with you to determine the most appropriate level of support.
